After the frustrating wait, tracking the delivery all the way from China, I now have my shiny new MacBook. The thing is fantastic, though there are a couple of niggling issues that bug me. First, while the shiny screen looks great, I already have a fingerprint on it, which seems really hard to remove. More seriously, it’s a bad idea to use the optical drive while holding the machione on your lap. I was burning a DVD, and picked the thing up off my lap. There was a worrying sound from the drive, and up popped a warning that the burn had failed. Seems the drive assembly and case are a little too bendy for comfort.
Edit: The 65° idle temperature is a little worrying too.

Matt, now that you are a member of [gods], you might be interested to note that no new account created on E2 since 22:00 on July 1 has ever logged in.
http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1817149 is the last new account to have logged in
http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1817153 was the first of of the non-logger-inners.
None. Not one of them. And there have been probably about 1000 accounts created in that time.
Doomed, I tell you!

1. You’re right. That’s terrible! I’ll see what I can do.
2. How did you work that out?

Well, let’s just say I was patrolling all the most recently-created nodes, and discovered that 80 percent of new nodes were associated with new users, and every single one of them had failed to log in. Then I went back 1000 nodes, and saw the same thing. And then another 1000…. It just got worse and worse.
Good for you for fixing it, though I do have to say that the /topic you set seemed to imply I discovered it by attempting to create a new account. As if!
But I’ll bet an evening of beers for you and Haje that you can’t identify which of the 1000 or more accounts was created by me… Though I can neither confirm nor deny the allegation. *winks*

Did it imply that? I forgot what it said. As to the challenge: There are actually admin tools that I could use that would tell me, but I think it’s a bit early for me to abuse my powers in that way quite yet.

Heh
Abuse away.
I know most of the admin capabilities and if there are any that can identify the account (which I may or may not have set up) I’m a Dutchman.
The offer still stands, even with all the powers admins have at their disposal. Used ethically or not.
*grin*
